Systems Engineer

Cambridge, MA

The team

Superpedestrian brings together a team of extraordinary people for one vision: transforming urban mobility. Our first move? Pedal power. We have an exclusive license to MIT’s Copenhagen Wheel, thousands of pre-order sales and backing from tier-one venture capital investors. Together, our team is now bringing the Wheel to the masses.

The Copenhagen Wheel is an electronic assist robot that responds seamlessly to how you ride. It makes biking a breeze. To work with us, you don’t have to be the world’s most obsessed cyclist, but you should possess a strong desire to change the way people everywhere move about cities. We’re revolutionizing personal transit for a sustainable future.

It should be a no-brainer: Superpedestrian is an equal opportunity employer, with women and minorities strongly encouraged to apply. We care about your skills and your character. If we think there’s a good fit, we will get in touch. So please, no phone calls or recruiters.

Who you are

We are seeking a hands on Systems Engineer to drive the creation and verification of engineering requirements from product and regulatory requirements.  Sitting at the intersection of the firmware, electrical, and mechanical domains, you will ensure that the Wheel performs beyond expectations.  You will work closely with the engineering teams to drive performance of the system as a whole and will combine qualitative and quantitative data from testing, manufacturing, and fielded units to understand and improve the product and experience.

What you’ll do:

  • Generate detailed engineering requirements from internal product requirements as well as applicable end product standards.
  • Plan and execute system-level testing of the Wheel and wheel sub systems.
  • Analyze test data to validate system performance.
  • Lead regulatory and compliance testing for the Copenhagen Wheel
  • Hands on support of test development and execution.
  • Participate in future system architecture development
  • Generate a quantitative understanding of field data and use this to provide insight to the team on real-world performance, trends, patterns, and limits of the Wheel.
  • Lead technical risk identification and mitigation efforts.
  • Investigate new technologies.

What we’re looking for:

  • BS in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of systems engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of robotics experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulatory testing and end product standards
  • Experience with hazard analysis and FMEA is desired
  • A desire and ability to understand cross-disciplinary problems.
  • Experience using Matlab, Python, or other similar platforms to analyze field and test data.
  • A unique ability to extract information from data.

What you can expect

  • A team of awesome, like-minded, driven people that support each other, and mentors from across the top echelons of industry
  • A competitive compensation and equity package as well as a 401(K) retirement savings plan
  • The choice of a wide range of health and dental insurance plans, a flexible spending account, short and long-term disability and life insurance

  • A gorgeous, dog-friendly workspace in a beautifully renovated warehouse with a private courtyard in the heart of Cambridge
